#WomenLead (Issue 91): Your weekly round-up on women in politics
Hello, and welcome to Issue 91!
Just like that, the month of March is almost over! But we hope that conversations on the rights of women and girls, and on gender equality, will continue regardless of the time of the year. As the Women’s History Month 2022 draws to a close, if you are looking to give a nice gift to somebody, do consider gifting a subscription of #WomenLead! And by doing so, you would end up supporting our work too - what a fabulous gift that would be! 🎁
Are you someone who has some observations and insights on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on women’s political participation?
If yes, you may like to participate in this e-discussion on this theme organized by the International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics. They are inviting electoral management bodies, women and men in politics, political party leaders and members, civil society and women’s rights activists, practitioners, and researchers to contribute to the discussion from 21 March to 11 April 2022. We’d love to see some of our #WomenLead voices contribute, so do join the conversation! 📢
In this week’s edition we bring you updates from India, Nicaragua, and Pakistan, with a spotlight on Somalia. In case you missed last week’s edition, you can read it here.

✊ WOMEN POWER: The 66th session of the UN Women's Commission for Status of Women has just concluded. This year’s theme was about the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes. Among the many things that were discussed and eventually agreed upon, the Commission called upon the world to promote the full and equal participation and leadership of women and girls to make natural resource management and climate, environment and disaster risk action more effective. “Women and girls are taking climate and environment action at all levels, but their voice, agency and participation needs to be further supported, resourced, valued and recognized,” a UN Women press release said, and well, here we are nodding in full agreement!
